NUI, Galway/GMIT Sub Aqua Club News
Malin Beg
Hey everyone!
So this is the story with Malin Beg so far:
Bus will be leaving the club house at 11am on Thurs 15th. you need to be there before 11am to load the bus with gear
It will be stopping in Dunnes, Terry-land on the way to Donegal,(Tír Chonaill) so you can do your food/alcohol/alcohol/ shopping there...
Approx back at 6-7pm Monday...ish followed by unpacking and cleaning the gear and Malin Beg debrief in some watering hole.
BRING:
1. Sleeping Bag
1.1 donegal to English dictionary or equivalent.
1.2 bottles of iron brew to trade with locals for safe passage from hostel to pier.
2. Clothes:
- need to be warm + water proof (including rain coat, rainproof trousers if you have them, dancing shoes, glad rags, hats, scarves, gloves, socks, boots/wellies etc)
- Plenty of changes of clothes in case it rains a lot.. ( hats, scarves, gloves, socks )
3. Food & Drink
- dinner on Thursday night
- breakfast for 4 days in the hostel
- lunch for 3 days on the pier
- Junk Food (lots - chocolate, fish biscuits, cereal bars, ...)
- alcohol (if you want it) for drinking in the hostel
- Flask for pier is a good idea. (for soup, hot drinks, ...)
4. Daysack for pier..
- Towels
- hats, scarves, gloves, socks, ...
5. Dive Gear (belt & weights, fins, mask, snorkel, wet suit, togs, booties, gloves!!! etc.. - if you didn't get your suit through the club, please check with someone beforehand to make sure it's warm enough)
6. Logbook!! (no getting on the bus without it)
7. make sure you pay your insurance (no insurance no dive)
8. Spare B.C.D for Niamh.
Use your common sense.. you pack it, you carry it the mile up the hill to the hostel......(apart from the dive gear, which stays on the bus)...
...but if you end up cold & hungry you won't be happy - overestimate the food you'll eat and the clothes you'll need.
Last year we went to the pub 3 nights, the year before we did our drinking in the hostel - there are no ATMs any closer than Killybegs, so you'll need to bring some money up with you - for food on the way up and back & for drinks in the restaurant & pub & we may end up in the nightclub in Killybegs one of the nights.
the pubs down the road from the hostel are great craic and full of slack-jawed locals that we play darts with most years. its good fun.
Cost: €100.
the club is subsidising the rest and anyone who is going for a shorter time we will sort it out. You are getting a great deal!!!
You'll have to hand over your remainder of the money (ie 50, after the deposit) before you get on the bus.
any problems contact me.

Spring Fin 2007
If you're a new diver or a diver who hasn't been in (cold) water in a while, you need to log 3 30min snorkels, before any open water scuba can be done. Anyone planning to go to Malin Beg has to log these prior to the trip.
The annual Spring Fin is taking place in Salthill, near Blackrock, this Saturday (10th) at 11am.
It's a chance for you to to get your snorkels in, and try out your new suits and all new divers, who have completed their pool snorkel test, should attend.
If you are attending, please email me - imelda@galwaydiving.com - if you haven't done so already.

EGM
There will be an Extraordinary General Meeting of the NUIG/GMIT Sub-Aqua Club taking place in Áras Uí Chathail at 8pm on the 7th March.
Agenda:
- to discuss the proposed draft constitution & arrangements for the sharing of the RIB between the 3 clubs (i.e. Sub-Aqua, Sailing and Windsurfing), including the most suitable arrangements for our representation on the inter-club committee
- to discuss whether we need to amend our own constitution to take account of the existence of the RIB committee, eg the appointment of a sub-committee to deal with related issues
- AOB
These issues are very relevant to the future running of the club and to the diving we will be able to do.
This meeting is open to all members of the Sub-Aqua Club.
If you want to be informed and have your say, then please turn up.

christmas party
It's that time of the year again when we all have to suffer, sitting in front of a book telling ourself, "this is so ****ing boring, but i'm really ****ed if i don't do it", well this is your chance to get away from the books for at least one night {and most of the morning} because the christmas party is coming up on thursday the 23th of nov. Same story as always; all you can drink {and hopefully keep down} DJ on the night in that beautiful little location we call home, that's the club SHED for newbiees. The price of the night is €20 and going by the pictures from other years it could be an INTERESTING one.
Ticket's go on sale next wednesday at the lecture in D'arcy at 8.
See ye there
